Maëlle

Maëlle was a 14-year-old girl who committed suicide on January 31, 2020 following school harassment and the dissemination on social networks of images and videos of a sexual nature. One of the perpetrators, aged 16, admits having broadcast a video of the young naked victim “for revenge”. He had asked Maëlle for videos himself and posted them on Snapchat and other websites. He had also sent pictures to other people. Other young people from her school had informed Maëlle who began to panic in the face of the rapid spread of images. In a video left to her parents to explain her gesture, Maëlle describes the situation as unbearable. The intimate video had been on social media for two months. Her mom learned all this after her daughter passed away

The suspects are four in number and are being prosecuted for inhumane treatment with the aggravating circumstances of causing death without intent to give it, harassment, voyeurism for minors under the age of 16, and possession and distribution of child pornography. A teenager was sentenced to 120 hours of education and/or general interest. The other suspects are still awaiting trial.
