The main activities of the project

The project studies social rules and their impact on violence against migrant women. It also evaluates the effectiveness of methods of social change. A study is being conducted to understand how laws affect domestic violence among migrants.

Focus groups bringing together women and men are organized to gather varied perspectives. In-depth interviews with experts are also conducted to enrich the understanding of the subjectThe project creates a European guide to assess social standards on domestic violence with quantitative methods. Additionally, training materials, including online training (MOOC), are designed for training professionals. Finally, field tests are carried out to use the tools created in three different locations for four months.

The expected results

The project aims to increase professionals‘ knowledge of the risks of mistreatment within migrant couples. Professionals will gain a better understanding of the risks of mistreatment within couples among migrants.

Professional training : 50 people will learn to better understand the risks of mistreatment in migrant couples and their culture of origin.

The type and number of documents to be produced

– A research report on social norms and their consequences in terms of violence against
towards women, the implementation of the social change approach, as well as the evaluation
the effectiveness of this approach

A research report on the impact of the legal framework on domestic violence among migrants

– A European guide including a quantitative tool for assessing social standards regarding the risk of domestic violence (FR, EN)

3 training sessions

– A training kit, including a MOOC (FR, EN)

– 6 awareness meetings

– A distribution plan (BE and EU), a website, a tool transposition package;
– An evaluation report;
– A summary report (FR, EN).

Project stages

The IPV-Migrants project is divided into Working Package (WP) and each active WP :

T1.1 : Scientific monitoring – choice of pilot sites

T1.2 : Team coordination – organization of the 3 general meetings

T1.3 : Working documents

T1.4 : Administrative and financial monitoring – Establishment of the work team and regular intra- and inter-team meetings

T2.1 : Systematic review of the literature relating to social norms and their consequences in terms of violence (BE, EU); Research on the social change approach and evaluation of the effectiveness of this approach

T2.2 : Estimate of the extent of violence whose deep roots can be traced to the adherence to social norms by certain communities;

T2.3 : Research on the impact of the legal framework on domestic violence among migrants

T2.4 : Report on the state of play of the question of the influence of social norms on violence in couples of people with a migrant background.

T3.1 : Quantitative survey on measuring the extent of social norms related to the theme of violence against women

T3.2: Conducting focus groups (4X10 women and 2X10 men)

T3.3 : In-depth interviews with experts (10 + experts from the Advisory Board)

T3.4 : Analysis report of in-depth interviews with experts and focus groups

T4.1 : Development of a European guide including a quantitative tool for assessing social standards regarding the risk of domestic violence
